This disc proves the adage that you shouldn't judge a book (or CD) by its cover: beneath a blurry and daunting photo of Lindsay as a soggy frogman, the more adventurous buyer will discover hypnotic rhythms and enigmatic lyrics. While Lindsay's voice is thin (and sometimes flat), his narcotic delivery is nicely suited to the pictures he paints. Check out the Brazilian flavors of "Simply Are" or the trance groove of "Ridiculously Deep," and you'll hear why this cult favorite has won the admiration (and guest appearances) of musicians like Nana Vanconcelos, Mitchell Froom, Peter Scherer and others. So put the cover away and let your ears be the judge. AMG

ReplyDeleteHi Stylo,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Adventure Equation the other day!. You've been on my mind lately with these Arto posts. They're fantastic albums and I had been meaning to thank you for sharing them.
Arto's dad lives down the street from my aunt & uncle. I've hoped to meet him but our family visits have never coincided. Maybe some day...
I also want to point you to a great Don Cherry post over at Inconstant Sol.
Cheers!

Hi Yotte,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on the Cherry post, I had a 192 version, so the upgrade is most welcome.
If you do bump into Arto, say hello from me...
I too must thank you for posting this. 'Mundo Civilizado' has gotten a lot of play from me for about the past 2 years & I can't wait to hear some more of what Arto can come up with.
